I was born in Gran Canaria (Canary Islands), Spain. There, in the Canaries, I grew up in a multicultural environment where different continents meet, giving the islands its characteristic blend of artistic and intellectual trends. Music and the arts have deep roots in Gran Canaria, where exhibition centers and "tallers" (or workshops) abound, and where international music festivals take place every year, from Jazz to opera and classical music. Dance (in all its forms) and drama are well represented in the cultural life of the island, which counts not only with a historical theatre but also a modern auditorium home to the local Symphony Orchestra. This is where my journey began, and where I had the first opportunity to meet a number of excellent teachers that defined the future of my career. I still draw inspiration from their teachings.
I had the honor of studying later in life at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, situated in what is possibly the most beautiful site in Cardiff, and where studying becomes almost part of the landscape as the students scatter all over the green reading, studying, or just chatting away. On my final year at the conservatory my tutor, Peter Reynolds (a Guinness Book of Records entry!) adviced me to take an offer from the Estonian Music Academy, where later on I would take masterclasses with Arvo Part, the most played composer alive. There I finished my MA and was awarded a grant to continue with my PhD (obtained in 2015).
Teaching and passion for the artistic life is what those teachers, tutors, personalities, and I have in common; I see it as my duty to continue the line and transmit to the younger generations all that I learned from them.
